It was no surprise to read recently that a rising number of adults are seeking orthodontic treatment. In a survey from the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), seventy-five percent of their members said they were experiencing an uplift in patients asking about and undergoing treatment to straighten teeth and improve the smile.

- Increased awareness – One of the main reasons cited in the survey was the increased awareness of the orthodontic treatments available. We think this is partly due to the marketing efforts of orthodontic practices but is also thanks to the celebrity promotion of braces treatments. Well-known names such as Gwen Stefani, Tom Cruise and most recently Andrea Mclean have helped to make it ‘hip’ to have braces.
- Selfie culture – the popularity of the ‘selfie’ means more people are aware about their smile on camera and want to look their best. If you are too embarrassed by your smile to pose for your own photograph, then it is a logical step to enquire about the treatments available to help straighten crooked and wonky teeth or close gaps between teeth to give you back the confidence to smile freely.
