Lingual brace case studies
As a hidden brace option, lingual braces can be used as an alternative to Invisalign aligners. Lingual braces are a popular orthodontic option because they offer the benefits of both a fixed and hidden brace.
Lingual braces are placed at the back of the teeth, making them virtually invisible. This has made them more popular among adults, especially those who are conscious about the appearance of wearing braces.
But, are lingual braces right for you? Not everyone can wear lingual braces because there are some challenges associated with them which are not found in traditional braces, such as the teeth have to be long enough in order to provide sufficient space to glue the braces on the inside of the teeth. As a result of this lingual braces may not work for children or even adults with small teeth. Also, if you have excessive bite problems that can affect the approval to wear lingual braces.
If you do play a wind instrument or a sport then lingual braces are easier to adapt to than traditional braces. When it comes to adapting to lingual braces in the short term it may take some time for you to get used to it simply because you may find it difficult to swallow without using a tongue thrust (which is placing the tongue between your teeth without swallowing) not to mention that tongue thrusting places force on your teeth that can lead to more dental issues. What can you do? You can practice not using a tongue thrust when swallowing by gently touching your teeth together and then swallowing. This will take a few weeks to get used to, but when you do there is no discomfort at all and then you will feel you can eat or drink naturally as though the lingual braces are not even there.
Brace care is important for all orthodontic treatments that take place including lingual braces. This means you will need to take extra care when brushing and cleaning your teeth, which is even more important as lingual braces are placed in a tricky position at the back of your teeth so you need to double-check that you have brushed away all the food particles.
The end result will leave you feeling very satisfied and happy with the orthodontic treatment. You should see an improvement in the dental appearance and oral function of your realigned teeth.
