Are straight teeth on your New Year's resolutions?
New Year's resolutions as we all know are hard to stick to. Giving up on that diet after three days? We’ve all been there. If your New Year’s goal is to straighten your teeth, then head over to Northenden House Orthodontics to explore your brace options. Read on to find out how we can improve your smile and how to enquire.
What treatments are available?
The treatments we have available at our practice are:
Fixed braces
Metal and ceramic braces are common fixed appliances as they straighten the teeth quickly and are reasonably priced. The only difference is that ceramic braces use clear or tooth coloured brackets, and therefore are a hidden and discreet tooth straightening option.
Lingual braces are similar to metal braces as they work in the same way but are just fitted to the backs of your teeth, rather than the front. They are another option for anyone who may not want people to know they are having brace treatment.
Removable braces
Invisalign is a removable appliance that is made to fit your teeth and gradually straighten them through a series of clear plastic aligners. We have found that they are a very popular appliance chosen by people of all ages but most commonly by adults, due to them being completely invisible!
Functional braces, also known as twin block braces are also removable appliances that are suited to younger patients as they help encourage the jaw to grow into the correct position and prevent receding jaws or excess overjet. We wouldn’t recommend this type of brace to patients who have a fully developed jaw as it won’t work as effectively.
Orthognathic surgery
Orthognathic surgery is a surgery that works to correct your bite. If your teeth don’t meet in the middle when you bite down then you may be suffering from a malocclusion. Orthognathic surgery is performed when the malocclusion is too severe to be corrected with braces alone. You will still need to wear braces before and after having the surgery to make sure the teeth will be in the correct position post-surgery.
